Spring is right around the corner. I can't wait to be walking through the forest and taking in all that is beginning once again. That's the beauty within Spring in nature is the great awakening the occurs each season. So much life frozen and dormant for so long and suddenly with warmth and sun the process once again continues. I always get excited in the early days before Spring when I see the skunk cabbage starting to sprout through the snow. I actually just saw some on my hike a couple days ago. It's going to be nice to have warm weather to run in again as well. Today I went running at a local fairgrounds that is close to me. I was dressed prepared for the weather but while running on the outside field road I just didn't quite feel like running 4 miles today so I cut it short to 1.5 miles. When it comes to running I am definitely an April through September runner when I'm not fishing of course! The sun was out today briefly on my run and it felt incredible. Think Spring!
It's always nice to have my days off from work on Monday and Tuesday. When most people are returning to work, I'm doing something I enjoy, especially in the summer months driving to a local lake to go fishing! This time of the year I'm usually found looking for shed antlers and doing some wildlife photography while I'm out in the woods looking for them. Today I spent a few hours hiking looking for them. I ended up finding Turkey Tail mushroom which has a ton of medicinal properties that I have been reading about. I'm going to go back tomorrow and harvest some of it and either make a tincture from it or a tea. I also thought I had discovered some type of new mushroom/fungi that was bright yellow, but from some research I believe it to only be tannin icicles. I admired the beauty in the creek water flowing along the way. What was funny was after I finished looking for the sheds I ended up seeing a lot of deer driving home in the fields and two actually were still holding their antlers! I guess not all the deer have dropped their antlers yet so there is still hope in finding some.

In June 2013 I remember first discovering scanography and knew that it was something I would like to try. I haven't done anything with it since I first had learned about it and attempted it with the flowers seen in the image below. Preserving flowers is always something that people have tried throughout time. We see their beauty and want to hold on to that forever. Often in life we forget that all flowers will fade with time. Beauty will fade and only the memory will remain. The true beauty that we can see in everything is within and that is the greatest treasure of all in this life. Find time to go on a walk outside and see the true beauty within nature. Now is a perfect time to discover unique bracket mushrooms growing on dead logs. The thickets near swamps have limbs with bright red beauty on their bark. Beauty can be found in each season if we look with an open heart.
Several years ago I was kayak fishing on Mosquito Lake in strong windy conditions. I am always careful when kayaking and wear my inflatable life vest. This day was really strong winds and the lake was building white caps. I was toward the center of the lake and recall in the distance seeing what I thought was a couple kayakers. I could barely make them out because of how high the waves were. With the wind blowing towards me and really high waves hitting the bow of the kayak and coming over and inside, experience took over and I then began paddling back at a 45 degree angle against the waves. I made it back safely, but when returning I had seen a boat that looked like EMS was aboard looking around. Later that day I found out that the two people I had seen were not in kayaks but a canoe and it had capsized. The one was rescued but the other guy drowned because he was not wearing a life vest. Please consider how quickly weather can change in conditions when kayaking. Negligent boaters can be a problem too, so always be aware of your surroundings. I wish a safe 2019 kayak fishing season to you all!
I have been craving pasta for so long and haven't eaten it in a year and a half. In the produce section last night shopping after work I found a Shirataki Spaghetti next to the tofu and it only has 4g of carbs per serving! I bought a bunch of these packs because I had really been wanting to have spaghetti with all the ground deer venison that is filling the freezer. I ended up making it and it was incredibly delicious! I plan on getting some deer venison jerky made in the dehydrator in the next day or so to have for 0 carb snacks.
Your smile penetrated into my heart and formed it like clay
Seems like forever I last saw you and talked
Here I am without knowing what to say
I’m standing here not knowing what to say
I had wished to see you and then when I did
I wished I hadn’t because it just reminded me
How much I still love you.
I started Keto in September 2017 at 230 lbs and by June 2018 I was 175 lbs. I also incorporated running 3 to 5 miles during the spring/summer months when the weather is nice here in Ohio. (Which sometimes feels like never...lol) I have always tried running to lose weight but never could get under 200 lbs. Keto allowed me to do that for the first time in my life. I don't have a lot of photos, but have tons of kayak fishing videos and realized that would show me at the most candid moments without feeling posed for a comparison photo. Here I think you can clearly see why I am so happy changing my eating lifestyle to Keto.
